Get Fit at Home with Bodyweight Workouts

When you don't have the luxury of going to the gym, you have to get a little creative to stay in shape, especially if you don't have any equipment. If you've ever tried coming up with home workouts, you know it can be a pain, as they're typically either way too easy or too difficult. This is where the beauty of the SmartWOD Workout Generator comes into play.

Arguably the best WOD Generator on the market, SmartWOD hosts a workout collection of over 5000 different workouts, 250 of which don't require any equipment. That's right, no equipment needed! No need to clog up your home with workout equipment, or break the bank with your new squat rack. With the help of the SmartWOD Workout Generator, you can get insanely fit in less than 20 minutes per day solely using bodyweight workouts. Oh, and did I mention that it is completely free?!

How it Works

SmartWOD Workout Generator provides you random functional fitness workouts - based on the equipment you have. Once you open the app, you'll see a little barbell icon in the top right corner. Select this icon and choose from 0 to 21 pieces of equipment to use throughout your workouts. If you're like me and don't have any workout equipment, don't sweat it! Like I mentioned previously, you still have access to over 200 workouts!

On the equipment menu, you can also filter out individual skills. For example, if you don't want to do handstand pushups, you can uncheck handstand pushups. Simple as that.

Once you've sorted out your equipment and skill preferences, head back to the main menu. You'll see a large "Go" button right in the center of the screen. When you're ready to generate a workout, just hit this button. However, before you do that, there are some workout terms you should familiarize yourself with.

  • AMRAP: AMRAP stands for As Many Rounds As Possible. When the SmartWOD Workout Generator comes up with a workout such as 20 Minute AMRAP of 10 pushups, 15 air squats, and 10 burpees, you will be doing as many rounds of this workout as possible throughout 20 minutes. Each time you complete the three exercises, you've done one round. For AMRAP's, the SmartWOD app has a small plus sign that you can hit after each round to keep track of your workout.

  • EMOM: EMOM standing for Every Minute On The Minute. Meaning you do a certain amount of reps for each movement, rest until the minute is up, and begin again for a set amount of time. A 12-minute EMOM of 10 pushups, 15 air squats, and 10 burpees would involve you doing 10 pushups for the first minute, 15 air squats for the second minute, and 10 burpees for the third minute. You would then repeat this pattern until you hit 12 minutes.

  • FOR TIME: Just as it sounds, for time is merely doing a workout as fast as possible. You could run a 5K for time, or do three rounds of 10 pushups, 15 air squats, and 10 burpees. The possibilities are endless.

  • TABATA: TABATA workouts are perhaps the most complicated, but the SmartWOD Generator App makes them easy to follow. An example of a TABATA workout would be eight rounds of pushups where you are consistently doing pushups for 20 seconds, then taking a 10-second break. This repetition would continue for a total of 4 minutes. 20 seconds on, 10 seconds off, is the staple regimen behind TABATA. The workout makes you work at your peak heart rate for short intervals to boost your VO2 levels.

Choosing Your Workout

Now that you know the main four types of workouts within the SmartWOD generator app, you're ready to start your first workout. Give that big "GO" button a tap, and you'll immediately see a random WOD pop up on the screen. If you like the WOD, great, time to get after your workout of the day! If you don't like it, you can hit the "NEXT" button to cycle to another random exercise.

If you're using the free version of the app, you'll run into an ad after cycling through 5 workouts. If you want to get rid of the advertisements, you can upgrade to premium, which costs less than one cup of coffee per month! But if you prefer not to pay, you can usually skip the ads pretty quickly. I used the free version of the app for a few months with no issues. The only reason I really saw a need to upgrade was to thank the creators for making such an awesome tool.

Once you've found a workout that says your name, hit the "START WORKOUT" button. You'll see a play button appear, once you hit this a timer will commence counting down from 10. Once you hit 3, 2 and 1, the timer will sound an alarm alerting you it is time to start the workout.

If you're doing a TABATA workout, the app will tell you when to rest and when to work. For EMOM workouts, the app will alert you each time a new minute commences, and for AMRAP workouts, the app will tell you when you're halfway there, along with when you hit the last minute. These are some of my favorite features of the app. You can focus on your workout without having to keep track of the time.

When you've finished a workout, the app will display your total time (or reps depending on the exercise). You can then save the workout, and even name and favorite it so you can remember it. If you want to redo an old workout, you'll need to upgrade to the app's paid version. You can always re-input the exercise into the app manually, so again, you don't need to have the paid version of this app to reap the benefits, it just makes it easier if you have the premium version.

The SmartWOD Workout Generator App is, in my opinion, the best WOD Generator app that you can get. It completely solves the problem of having no equipment, and it is 100% free. It has transformed the way I work out at home, and I'm sure it can do the same for you.

I am not an affiliate of SmartWOD, and I get nothing in return if you download the app, I purely enjoy using it and feel that it is a useful tool for everyone.

But The Workouts Are So Short?!

I've never been good at going to the gym and lifting weights for hours on end. Honestly, I get bored. That's where my love more high intensity, CrossFit oriented workouts comes into play. By frankly kicking your ass and working out in Cardio and Peak Heart Rate Zones for 10-20 minutes, you can see more significant health benefits than a moderately paces workout over twice the length. Using high-intensity workouts, you can expect to see a plethora of health benefits, such as Improved Oxygen Consumption, better Heart Health, and an increase in the ability to burn fat and calories. Not to mention, High-intensity workouts are seriously efficient and time-saving, so say goodbye to spending hours in the gym!

Whether you're looking to get in shape for your next adventure, or merely trying to kick up the home workout routine, I highly suggest you check out the SmartWOD Generator App. It truly is the best WOD Generator app available, and it has revolutionized the way I workout. I have no doubt it can do the same for you.
